Dermatological Use

Tretinoin is a first-generation retinoid derivative of vitamin A.

The ingredient was developed in the early 1950’s and first approved by the FDA in 1971 as a skincare treatment for acne. It gained similar approval in the UK in 1983.

Tretinoin became a landmark in dermatology for the prescription topical treatment of acne, ageing skin, and hyperpigmentation, establishing retinoids as central agents in skin renewal and long-term use.
