Tretinoin For Skin Renewal

Tretinoin For Skin Renewal

Tretinoin is a vitamin A–derived retinoid prescribed to support cell turnover, refine the look of pores, and soften the appearance of fine lines.

First developed in the 1950s and approved for UK use in around 1983, tretinoin remains one of dermatology’s most established options for smoothing wrinkles.

Your Questions, Answered With Care

Tretinoin is usually applied to the face, and can also be used on the neck and under-eye area when paired with a moisturiser. These areas tend to be more delicate, so a lower strength is generally recommended. Avoid applying it too close to the eyelids for comfort and safety.

Apply TWO pumps to clean, dry skin on the affected area(s) once daily at NIGHT. After applying, wash your hands and follow with a moisturiser to support comfort and hydration. Use an SPF 30 or higher every morning to keep your skin protected throughout treatment.

Monderma prescribes tretinoin in strengths starting from 0.01% up to a maximum of 0.1%, in line with national guidelines.

The right strength for you depends on several factors, including whether you are treating acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, or rosacea, your previous experience with retinoids, and how your skin naturally responds. Starting too high or increasing too quickly can lead to unnecessary irritation.

Although some users gradually adjust their strength over time, many find that a consistent, lower strength provides the most comfortable experience and the most reliable long-term results.

You may begin to notice early visible improvements after the first week. For more sustained and meaningful results, nightly use for at least 12 weeks is recommended.

For most users, tretinoin is a well-tolerated and reliable option for long-term skincare when used as directed.

Although tretinoin is effective for a range of skin concerns, some users may experience mild side effects as their skin adjusts. These can include peeling, redness, or sensitivity, particularly during the first few weeks.

To minimise this, Monderma recommends beginning with a lower strength and pairing your treatment with a moisturiser to help maintain comfort as your skin adapts.

Tretinoin must not be used during pregnancy. If you are trying to conceive, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, discontinue use immediately and contact us for further guidance.

Tretinoin should not be used with other retinoids, retinol, benzoyl peroxide when applied at the same time, strong chemical exfoliants such as AHAs and BHAs, physical or abrasive exfoliants, alcohol-based or astringent products, high-concentration vitamin C formulas, or heavily fragranced or essential-oil products, as these combinations can increase irritation and compromise the skin barrier. It is generally safe to use with most other over-the-counter skincare products.

If you are using any additional prescription skincare, you must inform Monderma so your tretinoin formula can be reviewed for safe continued use.

Please also inform any healthcare professional or treatment provider about your prescription skincare. Certain procedures may require pausing tretinoin before and after treatment to minimise sensitivity and reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
